NEW WASTE TIRE COLLECTION CENTERS
Barkley’s Auto Service, located at 686 Hwy 65 North in Greenbrier, and Luyet Automotive, located at 352 Hwy 65 North in Conway, will now accept waste tires from the public and from area tire dealers. Barkley’s hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., M-F, and Luyet’s hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. M-F. The Conway City Landfill, located at 4550 Hwy 64 West, will continue to accept waste tires as well.
Individual residents may dispose of up to 4 automobile tires per month free of charge at a designated Public Waste Tire Collection Center. Specialty and off-road tires are also accepted with disposal fees based on size and type of tire.
The Inter-District Waste Tire Program serves nine counties in central Arkansas including Faulkner, Clark, Hot Spring, Garland, Saline, Pulaski, Lonoke, Prairie, and Monroe. In 2012, the Program’s Waste Tire Collection Centers collected over 780,000 tires from the 9-county service area, which were processed into fuel, recyclable steel, playground rubber, mulch, and crumb rubber. Only 11% of the material was unusable and went to the landfill.
Collection Centers receive no compensation but collect and carefully document waste tires in a spirit of public service. The Program wishes to thank these area businesses for serving the residents of Faulkner County and the Inter-District. For questions, please contact Stacy Edwards, Waste Tire Coordinator, at 501-340-8787.
