Despite a Judge's ruling that declared the National Day of Prayer unconstitutional special observations were held across the nation, including here in Faulkner County. On April 15, U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb ruled that the National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional and violates the First Amendment. However in her decision, Crabb said ceremonies could still be held pending appeals. A group of people along with some of our local leaders gathered in front of the courthouse to observe National Day of Prayer. Quentin Washispack with New Life church led the group with the opening prayer. Others who led the group in prayer were Senator Gilbert Baker, Cornell Maltbia with True Holiness, John Gilliom with Grace Bible, Gary Mitchell with Harland Park Baptist, Judi Lively with Bethlehem House, Charles Murry with United Methodist and Frank Jevicky with Soul Food. Jim Bob Baker with Four Winds Church sang America the Beautiful. Damon Jackson, Chaplain of Conway Regional led the closing prayer. Â
