Russellville Man Charged With Multiple Counts of Child Pornography

A Russellville man has been charged with multiple counts of possession of child pornography.  Steven R. Swanson, 20, currently a student at the University of Central Arkansas, has been charged by 20th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Marcus Vaden with 588 counts of Possessing Matter Depicting Sexually Explicit Conduct Involving a Child.

On March 14, 2010, UCA Police were alerted that Swanson was in possession and utilizing numerous items of child pornography.  Officers quickly moved to make contact with Swanson and secure the pornographic materials.  The Arkansas State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Unit was contacted to assist the UCA Police to determine the exact number of pictures, movies and other viewing materials in Swanson's possession.

UCA Police took Swanson into custody on March 29, 2010 after the investigation progressed to the point that Vaden determined charges should be filed.  A first appearance is scheduled for Swanson on March 31, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. before Circuit Judge David Reynolds.  Vaden stated that additional charges could be filed since the investigation is continuing.  "The UCA Police Department did a wonderful job of moving quickly and deliberately to make certain that these materials could not be destroyed or concealed and to find the person responsible, " Vaden said.Â
