Allen was born and raised in Faulkner County, and has lived in Conway, Mayflower, and Wooster.  He attributes his family values to his mother Brenda (Turner) Lawson, and his Dad and Stepmother Greek and Polly Miller.  His biological father, Roger Dodson, was killed in a car accident when Allen was 6 years of age.  He has two sisters, Candy Rhoades and Mandy Long.

His parents and family instilled a "work hard and do right" attitude.  In his youth he excelled at sports as a Wampus Cat and Razorback football player.  He had a brief stint in the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer, and later moved back to Conway.  His early work history includes Virco Mfg., residential construction, and asphalt paving.  After 11 years at Acxiom Corporation he attended law school, graduating with Honors.  He operated a private law practice for 5 years, occasionally sitting as special judge in district courts throughout Faulkner County.

In July of 2012 he was hired as the County Attorney, and was selected by the Quorum Court to fill the vacant County Judge position on February 1, 2013, after Judge Preston Scroggin resigned to accept an appointment as Director of the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission.

He attends Gold Creek Baptist Church, where he teaches Sunday School and serves as Secretary.  He is on the Board of Directors of the Womens' Shelter of Central Arkansas and is a member of the Conway Noon Rotary Club.  He enjoys duck hunting and his faithful yellow Labrador retriever Tucker can often be found at his side.

Allen's Faulkner County heritage is notable:  More than 250 members of his extended family call Faulkner County their home.  His great-great-grandfather was Benton Turner, the first sheriff of Faulkner County.  His grandfather Cecil Turner was a Justice of the Peace.  His great uncle T.B. Hairston was long-time Faulkner County Tax Assessor, and Allen is also distantly related to former County Judges John Wayne Carter and Jesse Carter.

Allen Dodson was appointed Faulkner County Judge On January 31, 2013, and took office February 1, 2013.
